Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 review at Photography Blog

Posted by Steve on 24th September 2006

panasonic lumix fz50 reviewPhotography Blog has posted a review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50, a dSLR like digital camera with a 12x optical zoom and 10.2 megapixels resolution. With optical image stabilization and ISO speeds of up to 1600, the FZ50 should be well equipped to make use of the long zoom without the use of a tripod.

The reviewer recommends the Panasonic DMC-FZ50 and writes:
“The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 is simply a joy to use, offering a DSLR-like experience whilst avoiding some of the problems that DSLRs have (principally dust on the sensor and the lack of live view via the LCD screen). It’s a stylish, straight-forward, advanced camera with that 12x Leica zoom lens as its main attraction. […] If you’re really interested in the massive focal range on offer and you don’t want a “proper” DSLR, then the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 should still find a place on your shopping list, despite that persistent issue of noise.”

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 test at Digital Camera Info

Posted by Steve on 24th September 2006

panasonic lumix dmc fx50 reviewThe Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX50 has been tested by Digital Camera Info. The Lumix DMC-FX50 is an ultra compact point and shoot camera with 7.2 megapixels resolution and a very large 3 inch display. Interesting features include the 3.6 times optical zoom lens, supported by image stabilization. On top of that the FX50’s lens allows wide angle shots (28mm, 35mm equivalent). Supporting ISO speeds of up to 3200, the Panasonic FX50 should be well equipped for low light or fast action shooting.

The review results:
“[…] The chunk of plastic and metal is less than an inch thick and slides into pockets and purses for easy transportation. […] Better still, it is easy to use. […] Everything about the FX50 isn’t this good though. Its images are so noisy that they look like painted pictures with messy brush strokes. The auto focus system doesn’t handle low light well at all, so pictures are bound to be blurry despite the image stabilization and wide manual ISO range.”

Pentax Optio W10 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on 24th September 2006

pentax optio w10 reviewA review of the Pentax Optio W10 is available at imaging resource. The Optio W10 is a compact 6 megapixel camera, equipped with a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch LCD. The W10 is an ideal outdoor camera, waterproof up to a depth of 1.5 metres and also able withstand dust, snow and sand.

The review verdict:
“[…] I grew enamored with this model and what it was capable of doing underwater without the weight of a cumbersome housing. Pictures I shot at the lake were some of my favorites of the summer, offering good color and sharpness […]. If you’re looking to take the plunge with a waterproof camera, the Pentax Optio W10 will serve. Its marginal print quality just keeps it from earning a Dave’s Pick, however, given the very soft output even at the lowest ISO settings.”

Introducing the interactive Camera Selector

Posted by Steve on 15th June 2006

I am pleased to announce that we have added a new feature to TheVital.net Digital Camera Reviews: the Camera Selector.

Since the launch of this website at the end of 2005, we have included over 1300 camera reviews of no less than 110 digital camera models from a large range of reputable online digital camera resources. Our aim is to help you quickly compare review results for a specific digital camera model and find a high quality camera that fulfils your needs.

Taking our service one step further, the Camera Selector is an interactive search engine where you can select from a variety of camera specifications and features. The search result will only the cameras that match your requirements.
You can select from a total of 25 requirements, ranging from camera type (ultra compact to digital SLR camera) and intended usage (point and shoot camera to professional camera) to detailed camera specifications, such as resolution, image sensor type and shutter speeds.

The amount of requirements can seem overwhelming at first but don’t be put off by that. Simply leave the parameters you are unsure about at “no preference” and they won’t be used for the search. Alternatively, click on the question mark located behind a search requirement for an explanation.

You might also want to make use of the digital camera glossary. We’ve recently developed it to explain digital photography terms commonly used in the reviews. The glossary was well received by both seasoned photographers as well as inexperienced camera shoppers for its comprehensiveness and easy to understand language.
