Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on 21st May 2006

sony cybershot dsc h2 reviewA review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 has been published at imaging resource. The Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 is a 12x optical zoom camera, with 6 megapixels resolution and a 2 inch LCD display. The DSC-H2 also features image stabilization to reduce the effects of camera shake.

The results of the review:
“The Sony H2 provides more manual exposure control than many other long zoom digital cameras, yet is easy to use in full-auto mode, and its seven preprogrammed scene modes help with tricky subjects. The design and layout of the H2 is very user-friendly, and the camera boasts accurate EVF and LCD displays. […]
The Sony DSC-H2 is fairly fast on the draw, with faster than average shutter response, a smooth and responsive zoom, and very good shot to shot cycle times. […]
In use, the camera was great for a day at the stadium, as well as chasing the family around the yard. […]
Overall, given the low price and good performance, the Sony H2 is a bargain in a 6 megapixel 12X zoom, and a clear Dave’s Pick.”

sony cybershot w30 reviewCameras.co.uk have posted a review of the Sony DSC W30 digital camera. The Sony Cybershot DSC-W30 is a 6 megapixels ultra compact digital camera with a 3 times optical zoom and 2 inch LCD monitor. Greater light sensitivity and color noise reduction allow taking pictures in low light conditions.

The review results:
Points I like:
Viewfinder
Ease of use
Lack of shutter lag
Value for money

Where it is not so hot:

Red eye

Summary
The Sony DSC W30 is certainly one of the cheapest six megapixel, pocket sized cameras you are likely to find. The camera takes good photos rather than great ones. It has very little shutter lag and works well in lowlight. All in all I would say it offers very good value for money.”

Sony Cybershot DSC-W70 review at DigitalCameraReview

Posted by Steve on 12th May 2006

sony cybershot dsc w70 reviewA review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-W70 digital camera is available at DigitalCameraReview.
The Sony DSC-W70 is a 7.2 megapixel camera with a large 2.5 inch screen and a 3x optical zoom. As an ultra portable camera it is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket and ideal to take anywhere. The Cybershot W70 also features a very high ISO 1000 sensitivity mode, allowing you to shoot in low light situations and to capture fast moving action without blurring the subject.

The review conclusion:
“The W70 is a great camera for someone looking for a stylish camera that takes good pictures under a variety of conditions. Outdoor shots are very good and the camera has good indoor performance. The excellent LCD and ease of use also make this a very attractive camera to photographers who don’t need a ton of features. Sony chose wisely on which modes to include and kept the list down to just enough, but not too much to easily change with the mode dial.

Pros:
* Easy access to shooting modes (just change the dial, no digging in menus)
* Good indoor performance with flash
* Awesome battery life
* Good LCD

Cons:
* Controls a bit tiny (in my opinion)
* High rates of noise in shots taken with a sensitivity setting over ISO 200″

Sony DSC-W50 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on 12th May 2006

sony cybershot dsc w50 reviewThe Sony DSC-W50 digital camera has been reviewed at imaging resource. The Sony Cybershot DSC-W50 is a 6 megapixel ultra compact digital camera. It is equipped with a 3 times optical zoom and large sized 2.5 inch LCD display. With the W50 Sony introduces a greater light sensitivity, combined with color noise reduction.

The review verdict:
“It’s a very responsive camera, with low shutter lag in daylight conditions, and excellent shot to shot speeds. It also sports very good battery life, a very capable movie mode, and excellent download speed. […] The bright 2.5-inch color LCD monitor is excellent for framing and reviewing shots, and the overall design and layout of the W50 is user-friendly and hassle-free. If you’re looking for a good “take anywhere” camera with great versatility and good color and tonality, the Sony DSC-W50 deserves a close look. […] We suggest that you ignore the ISO 800 and 1000 settings on the camera, as the image quality there is really marginal even for snapshot-size prints, but if you look at the Sony W50 as an ISO 400 camera, it competes very strongly, making it a Dave’s Pick in its category.”

Sony CyberShot DSC-H2 review at CNet

sony cybershot dsc h2 reviewA review of the Sony CyberShot DSC-H2 digital camera is available at CNet.
The Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 is a 12x optical zoom camera, with 6 megapixels resolution and a 2 inch LCD display. Image stabilization to reduce the effects of camera shake is also available.

The reviewer awarded the Cybershot DSC-H2 7.2 out of 10 points, a ‘very good’ result.
The review conclusion:
The good: 12X zoom; image stabilization; decent selection of accessories.

The bad: Small LCD; large body; lots of noise at ISO 800 and above; no hotshoe.

The bottom line: The megazoom Sony Cyber Shot DSC-H2’s long, image-stabilized lens should have the soccer moms drooling–as long as they stick to the lower ISO speeds.”

sony cybershot w30 reviewA review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-W30 digital camera is available at imaging resource.
The Sony Cybershot DSC-W30 is a 6 megapixels ultra compact digital camera. It is equipped with a 3 times optical zoom and a decent sized 2 inch LCD display. High sensitivity and color noise reducing allows the Sony W30 to take pictures in low light conditions.

The review summary:
“It’s a very responsive camera, with low shutter lag in daylight conditions, and excellent shot to shot speeds. It also sports very good battery life, a very capable movie mode, and excellent download speed. Finally, Sony makes a line of accessory lenses, filters, a slave flash, and even an underwater case for it as well, greatly expanding your options beyond what you’d normal expect from a compact digicam model. The bright 2.0-inch color LCD monitor is excellent for framing and reviewing shots, and the overall design and layout of the W30 is user-friendly and hassle-free. If you’re looking for a good “take anywhere” camera with great versatility and good color and tonality, the Sony DSC-W30 deserves a close look.”

Sony Cybershot DSC-M2 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on 29th April 2006

sony cybershot dsc m2 reviewA review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-M2 digital camera has been published at imaging resource.
The Sony Cyper-Shot DSC-M2 is a hybrid digital video-camera. It features 5.1 megapixel resolution, a 3 times optical zoom and is capable of recording MPEG4 movies at 640×480 with up to 30 frames per second.

Here is part of the review verdict:
“The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-M2 is about as unique a digital camera as could be imagined. It packs a 3x zoom lens and high-resolution five megapixel sensor into a reasonably compact body, and offers generally good image quality as well as movies that are much better than average. The interface has been improved from the original DSC-M1, but still has quirks that could be ironed out. The interface is simply too complicated. […]

[…] While the M2 was sometimes a bit of a mixed bag (with occasionally inconsistent white balance and exposure metering), it generally offered photos that consumers will likely find appealing. […] Movies were better than average for a still camera, thanks both to the MPEG4 compression. […]

At the end of the day, while the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-M2 does a lot to emphasise how to integrate (and really take advantage of) video in a still camera, its flaws, particularly in its zoom control and general overcomplexity, make me stop short of strongly recommending it.”

Sony Cybershot DSC-W30 review at DigitalCameraInfo

Posted by Steve on 28th April 2006

sony cybershot w30 reviewA review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-W30 digital camera is available at DigitalCameraInfo.
The Sony Cybershot DSC-W30 is a 6 megapixel point and shoot camera, aimed at entry level photographer. The DSC-W30 offers a 3 times optical zoom and a 2 inch LCD display and comes at a reasonable price of around $230. Additionally, the Cybershot W30 offers a high sensitivity mode that allows you to take photos in low light situations.

The review conclusion:
“Built with the technologically disadvantaged in mind, the W30 comes with a function guide that explains what each mode is for and how to make large prints from each image size. A High Sensitivity mode also allows entry-level photographers to grab a low-light shot without the flash. This mode utilizes the high end of the wide 80-1000 ISO range included on the Cyber-shot W30. While its inclusion is a bonus for such an affordably priced digital camera, the mode itself yields less than lovely pictures. […]
Still, some drawbacks should be expected on a $229 digital camera, and, overall, the W30 is a great value. It is easy to use, its other modes produce decent pictures, and the camera body is attractive and thin, which makes it comfortably portable. The Sony W30 provides a good package and basic features, as well as a few bonuses such as the wide ISO range and function guide, at a great price.”
