“The Ricoh GR is obviously not for everyone. It is a relatively expensive single purpose camera. The one thing that it does it does well. For anyone with an interest in landscape photography or planning to spend a week or two in Venice this would be an ideal camera. It is small and light but feels rugged as though designed for professional abuse. The overall impression of the Ricoh is that it is fun to use. Recommended.”

A review of the Ricoh Caplio R3 digital camera has been posted at DigicamReview.
Here are the results of the review:
“The Ricoh Caplio R3 is a stylish digital camera with a 7.1x wide-angle optical zoom lens packed into a very compact metal body. The 5 megapixel camera features a 2.5″ screen and built in vibration correction […].
If having a lot of zoom power in a very compact camera is a priority then this is definitely worth considering, but if image quality is a top priority then this camera is best avoided. Ricoh are to be commended for innovation in providing such a large amount of zoom with image stabilsation in such a small and speedy camera, and for that reason I’m giving this camera an above average rating.”

The Ricoh GR Digital will get its very own status, a camera designed for the enthusiast, the photographer that highly appreciates a quality lens like the GR wide angle and who is prepared to adjust him/herself to the camera. […] You will get addicted to the outstanding lens, the wide angle possibilities and you will wonder why no other camera has such an excellent lens. The GR Digital is a superb and exceptional camera. “A camera that can easily fit in your pocket, yet has a massive 7x wide-angle optical zoom lens. A camera that has a potentially winning combination of an anti-shake system and an extensive ISO range of 64-800. […]
The Ricoh Caplio R3 is one of the most usable, intuitive and well-designed digital cameras that I have ever reviewed, but at the same time, however, the images that it produces are some of the worst that I have seen. […]”

“It is, however, a competent consumer digicam with features desirable to both the beginner and advanced photographer. The Caplio GX will appeal to photographers who concentrate on landscape or indoor photography, and who don’t find the 85mm focal length at full telephoto limiting.”

Photographyblog has posted a review of the Ricoh Caplio R1 digital camera.
The results of the review:
“Image quality has dramatically improved in comparison with previous Ricoh models[…].
What should be a simple to use digicam is actually a frustrating experience. The 28-135mm lens is a great feature on such a compact model, offering true wide-angle and portrait options, but when zooming from telephoto to wide-angle, it almost sounds as though there is something mechanically wrong with the zooming mechanism. If Ricoh had retained the useability of their previous models and coupled it with the improved image quality, then the Caplio R1 would have been well worth considering[…].”

This is the result of the review:
“As a digital camera, the Ricoh Caplio 400G Wide is a neat and tidy kind of product. It’s not very different from the 100’s of other 3 megapixel digital cameras on the market, either in terms of design or features. It doesn’t create photos that will take your breath away - indeed, they suffer a bit too much from purple fringing and noise at the higher ISO speeds.
Having said all that, the Ricoh Caplio 400G Wide does have a few tricks up its sleeve, principally the speed at which it operates, that very useful wide 28mm lens, and the fact that it is water and dust proof. If you’re looking for a digital camera that will take a lot of abuse, either above or below water, then the Ricoh Caplio 400G Wide should find a place on your shortlist.”
