Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5 review at DigitalCameraInfo

Posted by Steve on 15th April 2006

panasonic lumix dmc lz5 reviewThe Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5 digital camera has been reviewed at DigitalCameraInfo.

The results of the review:
“The 6 megapixel, 6x zoom Lumix LZ5 could be a good fit for casual snapshooters who don’t plan to enlarge images or shoot much in available light. If they can avoid situations where they will run into the camera’s noise problem, they will probably be happy with the zoom range, the very effective image stabilization, and the generally simple, thoughtfully-implemented user interface.

Though other manufacturers are introducing image stabilization in low-end cameras, they haven’t caught up yet with Panasonic. We think Panasonic has made a good bet with low-cost image stabilization. Camera shake is a major annoyance for snapshooters, and addressing it for under $300 is a unique advantage – one that ought to outweigh the Lumix LZ5’s problems with image quality.”

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5 review at TrustedReviews

Posted by Steve on 13th April 2006

A review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5 digital camera is available at TrustedReviews.

The Panasonic DMC-LZ5 is a compact 6 megapixel digital camera with a 2.5 inch LCD display, an impressive 6 times optical zoom and useful optical image stabilisation that reduces the risk of blurred photos caused by camera shake.

TrustedReviews awarded the DMC-LZ5 an overall score of 7 out of 10 points.

The reviewer’s opinion:
“Although the LZ5 is priced to compete with budget cameras from other manufacturers, it succeeds only in demonstrating that Panasonic should stick to what it’s good at; making superb high-end super-zoom cameras. The LZ5 is too bulky for convenient pocket use, has questionable build quality, mixed performance and shoddy image quality despite its high quality lens. All in all a rather disappointing camera, and a blot on Panasonic’s otherwise impressive record.”

Panasonic Lumix LS2 review at DP Interface

Posted by Steve on 2nd April 2006

panasonic lumix dmc ls2 reviewDP Interface have published a review of the Panasonic Lumix LS2 digital camera, equipped with 5 megapixel resolution, a 2 inch display and optical image stabilization.

The summary of the review:
“Which entry-level camera has optical image stabilization? Well, only the Panasonic Lumix LS2. It helps counter camera shake caused by low-light or your average shaky hands. Wait a minute, the LS2 has another very unique feature as an entry-level camera: White balance set via color temperature - Even some digital SLRs don’t have this! […]

As an entry-level camera, don’t expect any manual controls on the Panasonic LS2. But it makes up (sort of) for that with excellent battery life, optical image stabilization and advanced white balance control. The Panasonic LS2 also features speedy autofocus and great performance. If you’re a beginner in photography and that’s what you want, this is for you.”

They awarded the DMC-TZ1 7 out of 10 points, a very good result.

The review conclusion:
“The good: Firm handgrip on camera facilitates one-hand shooting; familiar and user-friendly menu interface; 10x optical zoom for still and motion image shooting; travel-related functions.

The bad: Removable lens cap a hassle; lack of manual (aperture- and shutter-priority) controls; can shoot a total of only three frames in Fine image quality; slow zoom startup; noisy images beyond ISO 800.

The bottom line: For users who don’t care for manual options on a 10x optical zoom camera, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 is a good choice.”

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01 review at dpreview

Posted by Steve on 27th March 2006

panasonic lumix dmc fx01 reviewA review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01 digital camera is available at dpreview.

The review results:
“Noise aside, the FX01 is a real gem of a camera, and one I shall be very sorry to give back, mainly because using a compact with a 28mm equiv. lens is like a breath of fresh air compared to the 35 to 38mm wide end found on most models, which simply doesn’t allow you to capture the whole scene in a single shot. Of course there are compromises; there are cameras with sharper lenses (though in the ultra-compact sector not many), the lack of real photographic control may put some off, and the low-light noise issue cannot be ignored. But in the final analysis the FX01 sits in a class of its own as a truly pocketable camera with a high quality 28mm equivalent lens, with image stabilization thrown in to sweeten the deal […].

If the wide lens and compact size are important to you, the FX01 is a no-brainer, and even if they aren’t, this is a camera it’s easy to recommend - especially if you don’t really need high ISO performance. I liked the FX01 a lot - a lot more than I expected to, and it only misses a Highly Recommended thanks to the mediocre low light performance.”

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on 27th March 2006

panasonic lumix dmc fx9 reviewImaging resource has reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9 digital camera.

The review verdict:
“The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9 seems about average at first, with a 3x zoom in a small, stylish body, and a big 2.5 inch LCD. But when you learn it has Panasonic’s MegaOIS Optical Image Stabilization technology added, despite its average 3x zoom, that’s better than average. […]
Still, the Panasonic FX9 also offers 6-megapixel resolution, very bright color without oversaturating skin tones, good macro focusing, and excellent battery life. The Panasonic Lumix FX9 is a good little camera, and clearly one of the best bargains on the market for an optically stabilized digital camera. It just missed being named a “Dave’s Pick,” but it deserves your serious consideration if you’re looking for a unique camera at a great price. You really can’t match its combination of 6 megapixels, 3x zoom and optical image stabilization for anywhere near its price.”
