Nikon Coolpix L2 review at cameras.co.uk

nikon coolpix l2 reviewA review of the Nikon Coolpix L2 is available at cameras.co.uk. The Nikon Coolpix L2 is an easy to use, entry level digital camera with 6 megapixels resolution, a 3 times optical zoom and a 2 inch LCD display.

The review verdict:
Points I like:
Ease of use
Build quality
No red eye in test shot

Where it is not so hot:
Indoor shots
Shutter lag

Summary
Owing to problems with picture quality in some instances and also shutter lag I find it hard for me to recommend the Nikon Coolpix L2. It is a shame because the camera appears to be well made, but at the end of the day it is the quality of the pictures a camera can take that is the most important factor.”

nikon coolpix s6 reviewA review of the ultra compact Nikon Coolpix S6 camera is available at Photoxels.

They write:
“The Nikon Coolpix S6 is compact and stylish in its metallic silver or black body with chrome accents and S-curve “Wave Design.” It is one of the few digital cameras that features built-in Wi-Fi technology for transfer of images from camera to PC. It is super slim at 21mm (0.8in.) and easily slips into a jeans pocket. The Nikon S6 features 6.0MP resolution and users will love the huge 3-in. LCD monitor with a high 230,000 pixels resolution. The 3x optical high-quality Zoom-Nikkor ED lens gives a 35mm equivalent of 35-105mm with all lens movement inside the body. […]

If you already have Wi-Fi capability in your desktop or laptop, and looking for an easy-to-use point-and-shoot compact and stylish digital camera, the Nikon Coolpix S6 will appeal to you with its overall good to very good image quality and its many practical features.”

Nikon Coolpix S6 review at PhotographyBlog

Posted by Steve on 7th July 2006

nikon coolpix s6 reviewPhotographyBlog have published a review of the Nikon Coolpix S6. The Nikon Coolpix S6 features 6 megapixel resolution, a 3 times optical zoom and a very large 3 inch TFT display. The S6 is ultra compact, easily fitting into a pocket and the design is stylish, with a high quality, all metal body.

The reviewer scored the Nikon S6 4.5 out of 5 points.
The review summary:
“As a camera that is good to look at, the Nikon Coolpix S6 fits the bill, but does it take good photos? Thankfully yes - on the whole pictures from this camera are well-exposed, relatively noise-free up to ISO 200, with little purple-fringing. The only flies in the ointment are blurred corners at the 35mm wide-angle focal length and poor night shots. Obviously, as the S6 is strictly a point and shoot camera, it offers very little in the way of creative controls, but it’s perfectly suited to it’s target audience, and even produces good photos too!

If you’re looking for a stylish, intuitive compact camera with the option of wireless connectivity, then make sure to take a look at the Nikon Coolpix S6.”

Nikon Coolpix S5 review at cameras.co.uk

Posted by Steve on 30th June 2006

nikon coolpix s5 reviewCameras.co.uk have published a review of the ultra compact Nikon Coolpix S5 digital camera. The Nikon Coolpix S5 comes with a 6 megapixel image sensor, a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5 inch display.

The summary of the review:
Points I like:
Help text
Lack of red eye in test shot

Where it is not so hot:
Design causes problem with finger over lens
Short flash range

Summary
The Nikon Coolpix S5 faces some pretty stiff competition in the slimline six megapixel market. Although I have found little to actually put me off this camera I am finding it difficult to come up with reasons why you should buy it in preference to other digital cameras with similar features.”

Nikon Coolpix S5 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on 24th June 2006

nikon coolpix s5 reviewThe Nikon Coolpix S5 ultra compact camera has been reviewed at imaging resource. The Nikon Coolpix S5 is a 6 megapixel camera that comes with a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch LCD, packaged in a high quality, stylish all metal body.

Here is an extract of the review:
“Though it might not lead the pack based on image quality alone, the Nikon Coolpix S5 has a lot going for it in a camera this small. For starters, the Nikon S5’s svelte metallic chassis is one of the thinnest I’ve used […]. The majority of the rear of the Nikon S5 is taken up by the camera’s nice 2.5-inch LCD which produces great playback and live preview thanks to the screen’s 230,000 pixels.

Other standout features on the Nikon S5 included the new creative Pictmotion slideshow which through various audio and visual settings allows you to manipulate playback to make it more personal. […]

What the Nikon S5 might give up in tricky lighting conditions, it makes up for in its dynamic feature set including Nikon’s In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, Face Priority AF, and D-Lighting. Combine that with other great features including a new One-Touch Portrait Button, Blur Warning and a redesigned Graphic User Interface and the Nikon S5 becomes very worthy of a Dave’s Pick.”

Nikon Coolpix P3 review at dpreview

Posted by Steve on 23rd June 2006

nikon coolpix p3 reviewA review of the Nikon Coolpix P3 digital camera is available at dpreview. The Nikon Coolpix P3 is a compact digital camera with 8.1 megapixel resolution, a 3.5 times optical zoom and a large 2.5 inch LCD display. The Coolpix P3 has some impressive features, with Wi-Fi capability and a vibration reduction being the two most outstanding ones.

The review impression:
“[…] There is no doubt that the P3 is a better designed and more capable camera than the model it replaces. Ultimately though, for the majority of the target market, the images aren’t punchy enough, the shutter lag is way too slow for a 2006 model and - most importantly - the number of excellent alternatives from Nikon’s competitors, means the P3 will be of fairly limited appeal. A good camera, but unfortunately not a great camera, and one that just misses out on a recommendation, not because the final picture quality is poor, but because it can be quite a challenge getting there.”

Nikon Coolpix P4 review at dpinterface

Posted by Steve on 19th June 2006

nikon coolpix p4 reviewThe Nikon Coolpix P4 digital camera has been reviewed at dpinterface. The Nikon Coolpix P4 is a compact 8.1 megapixel camera with a 3.5x optical zoom lens and a large 2.5 inch display. The Coolpix P4 is also equipped with optical vibration reduction, which helps reduce the risk of blurred pictures or movies caused by camera shake.

The reviewer’s opinion:
“The camera has a good lens, 8 megapixels and produces very good photos too. With low noise (for 8 megapixels) and low levels of chromatic aberration, the P4 still has no high sensitivity option. Speaking of which, you may need extra batteries for extended shooting with the Coolpix P4 due to its below average battery life. And this is one camera not for low-light shooting - featuring a so-so flash, poor dark condition focusing and not even ISO 800. […]

The Nikon Coolpix P4 along with its WiFi-enabled sibling, the P3, are both for casual shooting and you’re at the camera’s mercy in action shots since both have slow performance. […]

I wouldn’t recommend the Nikon Coolpix P4 as there are other (better) cameras worth your time.”

Nikon Coolpix P3 review at dpinterface

nikon coolpix p3 reviewA review of the Nikon Coolpix P3 digital camera is available at dpinterface.

The results of the review:
“The Nikon Coolpix P3 has good build quality save for the two weak plastic spots. The P3 has good image quality as well - noise at ISO 400 was well controlled for an 8 megapixel camera which makes me wonder why Nikon didn’t include an ISO 800 option.

Sadly, the P3 also has the same weaknesses as the P4 - namely poor battery life, no high sensitivity options and slow performance. […]

The Nikon Coolpix P3 is a great value, selling for the same as the P4 and adding WiFi. The Coolpix P3 is a great value when compared to other cameras as well - currently, you’re paying a $20 premium for the WiFi. I’d recommend the Nikon Coolpix P3 though you might want to consider a bit since 1) if you don’t need a WiFi camera, then some other 8 megapixel cameras offer more controls and 2) this camera isn’t great for low-light or action shots.”
