Sony Alpha A100

Posted by Steve on 15th July 2006

Overview

The Sony Alpha A100 is a 10.2 megapixel DSLR camera that builds on the Konica Minolta legacy. The Sony A100 is compatible with A-mount lenses. It features Sony’s Super Steady Shot technology, an optical image stabilizer that sits inside the camera, which means image stabilization works with all lenses that fit the A100. On top of that, the Alpha A100 features high ISO 1600 sensitivity for low light shooting. Another interesting and useful feature is Sony’s Anti Dust technology, which vibrates dust off the CDD image sensor, that could otherwise impact image quality if dust gets into the system when changing lenses.

Nikon Coolpix L2 review at cameras.co.uk

Posted by Steve on 14th July 2006

nikon coolpix l2 reviewA review of the Nikon Coolpix L2 is available at cameras.co.uk. The Nikon Coolpix L2 is an easy to use, entry level digital camera with 6 megapixels resolution, a 3 times optical zoom and a 2 inch LCD display.

The review verdict:
Points I like:
Ease of use
Build quality
No red eye in test shot

Where it is not so hot:
Indoor shots
Shutter lag

Summary
Owing to problems with picture quality in some instances and also shutter lag I find it hard for me to recommend the Nikon Coolpix L2. It is a shame because the camera appears to be well made, but at the end of the day it is the quality of the pictures a camera can take that is the most important factor.”

Fujifilm FinePix F30 review at Digital Camera Info

Posted by Steve on 14th July 2006

fuji finepix f30 reviewThe Fujifilm FinePix F30 camera has been reviewed at Digital Camera Info. The ultra compact Fujifilm Finepix F30 offers 6.3 megapixels resolution and offers Point and Shoot simplicity as well as some more advanced controls, such as Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority.

The review conclusion:
“The i-Flash system is incredibly effective and virtually banned red eyes from its images, but it did need a lot of time to recover and flash again; it just can’t be rushed. A horribly noisy continuous auto focus system, coupled with motor noise on the 3x optical zoom lens, makes an electronic symphony that keeps optical zoom unavailable in movie mode– which is too bad, because much of the competition is including functional zoom in video recording. Still, if users can plug their ears and handle the minor quirks, the Fujifilm FinePix F30 offers outstanding resolution and low noise levels in a small compact camera for $349.”

Sony Cybershot DSC-W70 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on 14th July 2006

sony cybershot dsc w70 reviewImaging Resource have reviewed the Sony Cybershot DSC-W70 a compact camera equipped with 7.2 megapixels resolution, a large 2.5 inch display and a 3x optical zoom. Designed for the beginning photographer the Cybershot W70 has an inbuilt user guide to simplify handling the camera.

The review result:
“It’s a very responsive camera, with low shutter lag in daylight conditions, and excellent shot to shot speeds. […] The bright 2.5-inch color LCD monitor is excellent for framing and reviewing shots, and the overall design and layout of the W70 is user-friendly and hassle-free. If you’re looking for a good “take anywhere” camera with great versatility and good color and tonality, the Sony DSC-W70 deserves a close look. […] One advantage that the W70 does offer over its lesser siblings is that its ISO 800 and 1000 settings produce images good enough to make 5×7 inch prints that we think most consumers would be happy with. All in all, a nice little package at an attractive price, making the Sony W70 another Dave’s Pick in its category.”

Posted by Steve on 14th July 2006

casio exilim ex z1000 reviewDigital Trends has recently published a review of the Casio Exilim EX-Z1000, a small 10.1 megapixel camera equipped with a large 2.8 inch screen and electronic image stabilization.

The review impression:
“I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this new 10MP point-and-shoot digicam. I really didn’t like the Casio EX-S500 but this digicam is definitely a shooter of a different color. The EX-Z1000 has a nice feel, superb onscreen menus, is simple to use and it takes good—not great—photos. I recommend it, especially if you can get it for around $350.”

Kodak EasyShare v610 review at ThinkCamera

Posted by Steve on 14th July 2006

kodak easyshare v610 reviewThinkCamera have tested the Kodak EasyShare v610, a compact digital camera that is equipped with 2 lenses. This unique design makes the EasyShare V610 the worlds smallest 10 times optical zoom camera. The Kodak V610 is also equipped with 6.1 megapixel resolution and a 2.8 inch display.

The results of the review:
“This is a really nice camera and there is so much I like about it. I like the sleek metal finish, the black etched front, the massive range of features, the huge zoom range… Kodak have pulled off an amazing feat in getting a 38 - 380mm zoom in such a tiny body and then just kept on adding feature after feature. […]
If you want a huge zoom range in a compact body then this is the camera for you but if you’re going to demand absolute image quality or require image stabilisation then you may have to settle for something a little larger.”
