Fuji FinePix F30 review at DCRP

Posted by Steve on 30th June 2006

fuji finepix f30 reviewA review of the Fuji FinePix F30 digital camera is available at DCRP. The Fujifilm Finepix F30 is a 6.3 megapixel, ultra compact digital camera with a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5 inch display. It is equally suited to point and shoot photographers as well as more advanced photographers who want more control, such as Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority.

Here is part of the review conclusion:
“It’s not very often where I really become fond of a camera that I review. Usually this happens with expensive digital SLRs that I can only dream about. This time around, I fell in love with a compact camera — the Fuji FinePix F30. While it’s not quite perfect, the F30 won me over with its great high ISO performance, battery life, LCD, and manual controls. It’s a camera that I can recommend without hesitation. […]

Camera performance was very good in most areas. The F30 starts up quickly, focusing times were above average, and I didn’t find shutter lag to be a problem. […] Photo quality was very good, especially in terms of high ISO performance. The F30 isn’t quite as clean as a digital SLR, but it’s way better than your typical fixed lens camera. You can print 8 x 10’s (and maybe larger) all the way through ISO 800, with smaller prints at ISO 1600.”

Nikon Coolpix S5 review at cameras.co.uk

Posted by Steve on 30th June 2006

nikon coolpix s5 reviewCameras.co.uk have published a review of the ultra compact Nikon Coolpix S5 digital camera. The Nikon Coolpix S5 comes with a 6 megapixel image sensor, a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5 inch display.

The summary of the review:
Points I like:
Help text
Lack of red eye in test shot

Where it is not so hot:
Design causes problem with finger over lens
Short flash range

Summary
The Nikon Coolpix S5 faces some pretty stiff competition in the slimline six megapixel market. Although I have found little to actually put me off this camera I am finding it difficult to come up with reasons why you should buy it in preference to other digital cameras with similar features.”

The image quality is good and with a little practice, you can get consistently good pictures. Sony Cybershot DSC-W100 review at Digital Camera Info

Posted by Steve on 30th June 2006

sony cybershot dsc w100 reviewDigital Camera Info have published a review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-W100. The ultra compact Sony Cybershot W100 offers 8 megapixel resolution, a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5 display. The Cybershot DSC-W100 offers automatic exposure control, scene modes, as well as full manual controls, which could make it appeal to both camera novices as well as experienced photographers.

The review conclusion:
“Sure, Sony took some shortcuts: its LCD screen has poor resolution, and the Carl Zeiss lens only extends to 3x, which is fast becoming below average. Still, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W100 takes great pictures, which users can control manually or automatically, for a fair price of $349.”

Casio EXILIM EX-Z60 review at LetsGoDigital

Posted by Steve on 30th June 2006

casio exilim ex z60 reviewA review of the Casio EXILIM EX-Z60 digital camera is available at LetsGoDigital. The Casio Exilim EX-Z60 is an ultra compact 6 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5 inch display. Equipped with Casio’s Anti Shake DSP technology the camera compensates for unsteady hands or fast moving objects to reduce blurred image results.

The Exilim series is well thought out and fitted with all sorts of innovative solutions. In general, the speed is great and it is typical of Casio that they have succeeded in this. The Casio Exilim Z60 is a handy compact camera with a lot of automatic functionality. It’s not perfect, but its good image quality will be more than enough to satisfy the owners of this camera!”

Canon PowerShot SD700 IS / Ixus 800 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on 30th June 2006

canon powershot sd700 reviewA review of the Canon PowerShot SD700 IS digital camera, also known as the Canon Ixus 800, is available at imaging resource. The Canon PowerShot SD700 is an ultra compact digital camera with 6 megapixels resolution, a 4x optical zoom and a large 2.5 inch LCD display. It is also Canon’s first digital ELPH camera to feature Canon’s optical image stabilizer.

The review conclusion:
“Though it’s a pricey little camera, the 6-megapixel Canon PowerShot SD700 IS offers some great tools for improving your photos that go beyond megapixels. In particular, the camera might change how consumers think about taking low-light photos. […] In the case of the SD700 IS, images captured in low-light at ISO 800 made excellent 4×6’s and not-bad-at-all 8×10s. In regular lighting at lower ISOs, things improved further with the camera providing solid image quality, good color and accurate skin tones. […]
Despite some other small criticisms of the camera — no dedicated IS button, small and inaccurate optical viewfinder — if you want a superior compact camera that doesn’t put all its resources into megapixels, you will not go wrong with the SD700 IS, making it an ideal Dave’s Pick.”

Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 review at digital camera review

Posted by Steve on 30th June 2006

casio exilim ex z1000 reviewThe Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 has been reviewed at digital camera review. The ultra compact Casio Exilim EX Z1000 is equipped with a high optical resolution of 10.1 megapixels and a large and bright 2.8 inch LCD display. Image stabilization to reduce the risk of blurred photos is available as well.

The review impression:
“As one of the very few 10 megapixel, compact point and shoot cameras on the market, the Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 doesn’t have too much competition (yet). It’s an attractive camera that has a nice LCD and takes good images in good light. When you move indoors, good image quality is harder to come by, but is not impossible. If you’re looking for a compact camera and to make very large prints that a 10 megapixel image can provide, then the Z1000 is your best option.”

Sony Cybershot H2 review at dpreview

Posted by Steve on 30th June 2006

sony cybershot dsc h2 reviewDpreview have posted a review of the Sony Cybershot H2 ultra zoom camera. The Sony Cybershot DSC H2 is a 6 megapixels dSLR like camera with a 12x optical zoom lens and optical image stabilization. The Cybershot DSC H2 also features an electronic viewfinder and offers the full range of exposure modes, from completely automatic to fully manual.

The results of the review:
“There are few cameras I can wholeheartedly recommend to both novice ’snappers’ and experienced photographers, but the H2, like the H1 before it, is that rarest of beasts […].

The Sony H2 scores highly in handling, image quality and ease of use, and only really falls short in a couple of areas; burst mode, focus speed in low light (specifically at the long end of the zoom) and the slightly underwhelming movie mode. […]

Of the current crop of 5/6 megapixel super zoom cameras the H2 is still, by a whisker, my personal favorite, and is in many respects a better camera than its high profile competitor, the Canon S3 IS.”
