Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on 21st May 2006

sony cybershot dsc h2 reviewA review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 has been published at imaging resource. The Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 is a 12x optical zoom camera, with 6 megapixels resolution and a 2 inch LCD display. The DSC-H2 also features image stabilization to reduce the effects of camera shake.

The results of the review:
“The Sony H2 provides more manual exposure control than many other long zoom digital cameras, yet is easy to use in full-auto mode, and its seven preprogrammed scene modes help with tricky subjects. The design and layout of the H2 is very user-friendly, and the camera boasts accurate EVF and LCD displays. […]
The Sony DSC-H2 is fairly fast on the draw, with faster than average shutter response, a smooth and responsive zoom, and very good shot to shot cycle times. […]
In use, the camera was great for a day at the stadium, as well as chasing the family around the yard. […]
Overall, given the low price and good performance, the Sony H2 is a bargain in a 6 megapixel 12X zoom, and a clear Dave’s Pick.”

Posted by Steve on 21st May 2006

kodak easyshare z650 reviewThe Kodak EasyShare Z650, a reasonably priced 10x optical zoom camera with 6.1 megapixels resolution and a 2 inch LCD monitor, has been reviewed at LetsGoDigital.

The review verdict:
“We can be concise about the final results: they are pretty good. The image quality is good and the automatic white balance generally works well. The colours look realistic and powerful and the portrait setting also gives good results with very natural skin tones. Moreover, the camera has an all round character for the snap shot photographer with its large optical range. The Schneider Kreuznach Variogon zoom lens does what you would expect of a lens from such a renowned brand.”

Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 review at LetsGoDigital

Posted by Steve on 20th May 2006

casio exilim ex z1000 reviewLetsGoDigital have reviewed the Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 digital camera. The EX-Z1000 offers a very high 10.1 megapixels resolution, a 3x optical zoom and a very large 2.8 inch LCD screen. The Casio EX-Z1000 is also equipped with an anti shake feature to reduce picture blur and allows you to simultaneously preview a wideangle and telephoto shot in the display and take a photo of both compositions at the same time.

The results of the review:
“The product itself is clear as daylight, and the Casio Exilim EX Z1000 camera takes the number one spot. The camera is equipped with many innovative functions, is economical with its energy, shows an excellent image quality, and is packaged in a high-quality stainless steel housing. In our opinion, the fact that this camera offers 10 Megapixels is not necessarily its main asset; after all, the Casio Exilim EX Z1000 camera already has sufficient potential in itself to seize a market share. Those who are looking for a digital camera, and are open to an abundance of handy and creative functionalities, should definitely take a closer look at the Casio Exilim EX Z1000.”

Fujifilm FinePix V10 review at Steve’s Digicams

Posted by Steve on 20th May 2006

fujifilm finepix v10 reviewA review of the Fujifilm FinePix V10 digital camera is available at Steve’s Digicams. The FinePix V10 is an ultra compact, square shaped camera with 5.1 megapixel resolution and a 3.4x optical zoom. The whole back of the camera is taken up by the large 3 inch LCD screen. As one of the first cameras, the Fuji V10 features built in games.

The review summary:
“While I have not been a great fan of super-sized LCD’s when they’ve come at the expense of optical viewfinders, the V10’s 3-inch display is more than just another “size matters” marketing statement; Fuji has exploited its presence with improved features - a 30-thumbnail display, zoomed instant review, Post Shot Assist Window and “Natural Light & With Flash”. The camera’s 5-megapixel images are very good, and its 3.4x zoom more versatile than its competitors. Add to that usable sensitivity settings of ISO 800 and 1600, and Fuji has created a high-quality point-n-shoot that tackles a variety of shooting situations with ease. If you’re in the market for an easy to use compact camera and like large LCD’s, the Fuji V10 should be high on your list.”

Canon PowerShot S3 IS review at dpreview

Posted by Steve on 20th May 2006

canon powershot s3 IS reviewThe Canon PowerShot S3 IS has been reviewed at dpreview. The Canon PowerShot S3 IS is a 6 megapixel ultra zoom camera, equipped with a 12x optical zoom lens and optical image stabilization. With a range of exposure modes, such as Auto mode, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual, and a range of Scene modes, both inexperienced photographers as well as photographers demaning more creative control will be able to use the Canon S3.

Here are some of the review results:
“Comparisons with it predecessor aside, the S3 IS Image quality is very good - certainly on a par with most of its competitors […].
But ultimately, like the models that came before it, the appeal of the S3 IS goes beyond simple pixel-peeping; it has a class-leading feature set, a very reliable image stabilization system (the benefits of which cannot be overstated) and superb handling. It’s well-priced, incredibly versatile and - above all - highly enjoyable to use. Despite the long lens and speedy operation it’s not the ideal ’sports’ camera (the focus at the long end of the zoom isn’t fast enough and does hunt a little), but for sheer shooting pleasure and versatility the PowerShot S3 IS still takes some beating.”

Fujifilm FinePix V10 review at DPInterface

Posted by Steve on 20th May 2006

fujifilm finepix v10 reviewA review of the Fujifilm FinePix V10 digital camera has been posted at DPInterface.

The review conclusion:
“So, the Fujifilm FinePix V10 has some built-in games on the huge 3 inch LCD for photographers to keep themselves busy when there are no photo opportunities. But other than that, it doesn’t impress me much as you would have expected from reading the last few paragraphs. I’d say the Sony T30 makes a good alternative but if you need manual controls and big zoom, then go for the Canon A700. Overall, the V10’s features are interesting but performance is not. If you still want to go Fujifilm, the might I suggest the F30 - It may have a smaller LCD and less zoom but it has much better noise characteristics and full manual controls.”

Posted by Steve on 20th May 2006

fuji finepix e900 reviewA review of the Fujifilm Finepix E900 digital camera is available at PhotographyBlog. The compact Finepix E900 is equipped with a 4x optical zoom and an impressive 9 megapixels resolution. With its range of exposure controls from fully automatic to manual, the Finepix E900 can be used by both point and shoot photographers and experienced photographers alike.

In the review the Fuji E900 was given the highest marks, with 5 out of 5 points.

The review verdict:
“The FujiFilm Finepix E900 is simply one of the best compact digital cameras that I have reviewed. It offers excellent image quality with a useable ISO range of 80-400 and few chromatic aberrations, fast operation in most areas of performance, and a full range of creative shooting modes. The 32-128mm lens is a little wider than most compact cameras and the overall design is intuitive to pick-up and use. Best of all, the E900 is now available for £199 at Amazon UK, which is amazing value for a 9 megapixel camera that actually delivers on most of its promises.”

Fujifilm FinePix V10 review at PCWorld

Posted by Steve on 20th May 2006

fujifilm finepix v10 reviewPCWorld have reviewed the Fujifilm FinePix V10 digital camera. Featuring a very large 3 inch display, the ultra compact Fujifilm Finepix V10 offers 5.1 megapixel resolution, a 3.4x optical zoom and built in games.

Achieving a ‘fair’ review rating, the FinePix V10 scored 69 out of 100 points.

Here are some of the review findings:
“This camera offers impressive performance in low light because of its high sensitivity. The FinePix V10’s ISO range, which tops out at 1600, makes it easier to take photos of dimly lit subjects without using the flash. […]
In our lab tests, the V10’s overall score for image quality was about average. Most impressive was the V10’s exposure accuracy, but its images scored lower in sharpness than did most other point-and-shoots we’ve tested. In particular, images produced by the Fujifilm FinePix E900 were much sharper.”
