Sony Cybershot T30 review at DPInterface

Posted by Steve on 28th May 2006

sony cybershot dsc t30 reviewA review of the Sony Cybershot T30 digital camera has been posted at DPInterface. The Sony T30 is an ultra compact digital camera with 7.2 megapixels resolution, a very large 3 inch LCD display and 3x optical zoom. The Cybershot T30 is also equipped with optical image stabilization and high ISO sensitivity to reduce the effects of camera shake and to enable low light shooting.

The conclusion of the review:
“Despite the large 3 inch LCD which has good visibility and the strong flash when using high ISO values, the Sony Cyber-shot T30 has excellent battery life - the best among the small cameras with 3 inch LCD and third place in the overall ultra-compact class. […]
The Sony T30 has an excellent 1 cm macro mode but overall does not have any manual controls. And while its movie mode is excellent, there aren’t any zoom or focus features while recording. […]

In case you haven’t gotten the point yet, I like the Sony Cyber-shot T30 (very much!). While it’s not the perfect ultra-compact, it is perfect for most shooting conditions. It’s a great overall camera and I highly recommend it to those who want pocketable performance. Now, just toss in a faster lens, some manual controls, faster performance & buffer and better movie mode in the next T-series!”

The review conclusion:
“The Fuji Finepix V10 is a love-it or hate-it camera. The unusual handling may be enough to put some people off on its own. Having said that the quality of the LCD screen is excellent, as is the quality of the images and it’s straight-forward and responsive to use as well.”

Sony Cybershot H5 review at DPInterface

Posted by Steve on 28th May 2006

sony cybershot dsc h5 reviewA review of the Sony Cybershot H5 digital camera is available at DPInterface. The Cybershot DSC-H5 is a digital SLR like camera with a 12 times optical zoom and a focal length of 36mm to 432mm, 35mm equivalent. It features a very large 3 inch LCD monitor and despite its long zoom range, it’s capable of taking close up shots with a minimum distance of 2cm.

The review results:
“Sony’s high-end ultra-zoom, the H5 does a pretty good job as an ultra-zoom with 7 megapixels, full manual controls and a 3 inch LCD. The camera is nicely built and looks professional - heck, some people even asked me if it was Sony’s new digital SLR! […]

While it has full manual controls, compatible with many accessories and a useful jog dial, this is probably not a camera for sports or action shooting. […]

Overall image quality was good and impressed me much and I’d be more than happy to recommend this camera to anyone who wants a big zoom camera with manual controls. Despite that, the Sony H5 does not have the ultimate control or super speed which may put off sports photographers or speed fanatics (like me). Oh yes, one more thing - is the H5 a better deal than the H2? It definitely is.”

Nikon Coolpix S6 review at LetsGoDigital

Posted by Steve on 28th May 2006

nikon coolpix s6 reviewA review of the Nikon Coolpix S6 is available at LetsGoDigital. The Nikon Coolpix S6 features 6 megapixel resolution, a 3 times optical zoom and a very large 3 inch TFT display. The S6 is ultra compact, easily fitting into a pocket and the design is stylish, with a high quality, all metal body.

The review verdict:
“I found working with the Nikon S6 digital camera an exceptionally pleasant experience. The camera truly lives up to its word; ease, excellent image quality and superb innovation packaged in a stylish design. Although the Coolpix S6 camera does leave Nikon room for improvement on a few minor points, such as adding optical image stabilisation, and extending the optical zoom range, this is something for a future generation of Coolpix S-series cameras. The Nikon Coolpix S6 is a camera for those who appreciate ease and value design, whilst keeping a keen eye on innovation. Recommended!”

The Canon Powershot A530 is equipped with a 5 megapixel sensor, a 4x optical zoom lens and a 1.8 inch display. Value for money

Where it is not so hot:

Considering the price of the Canon Powershot A530 I think it offers very good value for money. Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 review at DigitalCameraReview

Posted by Steve on 24th May 2006

sony cybershot dsc h2 reviewDigitalCameraReview have reviewed the Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 ultra zoom camera. The Cybershot DSC-H2 is equipped with a 12x optical zoom lens, 6 megapixels resolution, a 2 inch display and image stabilization technology.

The review results:
“The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2 is a solid offering in the ultra-zoom digital camera field. It takes good images at 6 megapixels and has a nice lens with good image stabilization. The flash is one of the most powerful that I’ve seen on a point and shoot camera - able to completely illuminate a completely dark room. Even with the nice flash, Sony’s Super SteadyShot image stabilization system allows you to shoot without a flash.

Some of the camera controls were not completely comfortable for me, but it also had plenty of dedicated buttons to easily access the most common functions (like focus modes and exposure compensation).”
