Posted by Steve on 28th May 2006

sony cybershot dsc h5 reviewA review of the 7.2 megapixel, 12x optical zoom Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 is available at CNet.

The Sony DSC-H5 achieved a ‘very good’ review result, with 7.2 out of 10 points.
The conclusion of the review:
The good: 12X zoom; image stabilization; solid selection of accessories.

The bad: Large body; lots of noise at ISO 800 and above; no hotshoe.

The bottom line: Advanced amateurs who find dSLRs too bulky will like the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-H5’s versatility but lament the noise at higher ISOs.”

Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 review at DCRP

Posted by Steve on 28th May 2006

sony cybershot dsc h5 reviewA review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 has been published at DCRP. Featuring a massive 12x zoom lens and 7.2 megapixel resolution, the Sony DSC H5 is interesting ultra zoom camera. It is also equipped with a large 3 inch LCD monitor and optical image stabilization.

Here is part of the review conclusion:
“Even with a few flaws, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H5 is still one of the best ultra zoom cameras on the market. It offers a high resolution sensor (with low noise levels through ISO 400), a 12X zoom lens, optical image stabilization, and an enormous 3-inch LCD display. Downsides are few, and they include above average purple fringing and a so-so continuous shooting mode. […] The DSC-H5 has the same Super SteadyShot image stabilization system that proved itself on the original DSC-H1, and it works well here too. […] Photo quality was very good for the most part. The H5 took well-exposed photos with nice color, pleasing sharpness, and low noise levels through ISO 400. […]

All-in-all, the Cyber-shot DSC-H5 is a very good ultra zoom camera, and one that I can recommend. The competition is fierce in this category, and I strongly recommend looking at the competition (listed below) as well. Try them all out and see which one you like using the most!”

Sony Cybershot DSC H5

Posted by Steve on 28th May 2006

Overview

The Sony Cybershot DSC H5 is a 7.2 megapixel ultra zoom camera with a focal length of 36-432mm, 35mm equivalent. This translates to a massive 12 times optical zoom. The zoom is supported by optical image stabilization, which reduces the effects of camera shake and therefore the risk of blurred pictures, especially when making use of the full zoom range or taking pictures where little light is available. As you would expect, the camera has fully manual exposure controls, but can also be used by camera novices, thanks to the fully automatic shooting mode, as well as the array of preset scene modes.

Olympus Stylus 810 review at CNet

Posted by Steve on 28th May 2006

olympus stylus 810 reviewThe weatherproof, 8 megapixel Olympus Stylus 810 digital camera has been reviewed at CNet. With 7.0 out of 10 points, the reviewers regard the Olympus 810 as a ‘very good’ camera.

They write:
The good: Offers high ISO settings; digital image stabilization; quick burst mode; solid image quality.

The bad: LCD washes out in bright light; no manual controls; some features available only at lower resolutions.

The bottom line: If you can stand a bit of noise, the Olympus Stylus 810 can handle your low-light and high-speed shots. Unfortunately, the easily washed-out LCD limits its use in sunlight.”

Olympus Stylus 810 review at Steve’s Digicams

Posted by Steve on 28th May 2006

olympus stylus 810 reviewA review of the Olympus Stylus 810 digital camera is available at Steve’s Digicams. The Olympus Stylus 810 offers 8 megapixels resolution, a large 2.5 inch display and 3x optical zoom. The Stylus 810 is compact and the metal camera body is weatherproof, meaning the Olympus 810 won’t mind being used in the rain or in dusty conditions.

The review result:
“The Stylus 810 is a welcomed addition to this “water resistant” Olympus line. While it offers great image quality and versatility with its multitude of user-friendly exposure modes and of course weather resistance, it could use a boost in the performance department. With an MSRP of about $429, I feel it’s a bit expensive.”

Olympus Stylus 810

Posted by Steve on 28th May 2006

Overview

The Olympus Stylus 810 is a compact digital camera with 8 megapixels resolution, a 3 times optical zoom and a 2.5 inch LCD display. The Stylus 810 comes in a sealed metal body that protects the camera’s interior from rain, snow and dust, making it an ideal all weather camera. Equipped with digital image stabilization and a very high sensitivity mode of up to ISO 3200, the Olympus Stylus 810 can take pictures in low light situations, or photos of fast moving objects, while reducing the risk of blurred image results. Speaking of low light situations, Olympus uses bright capture technology to boost the brightness of the LCD display, allowing you to compose your shot even with little light available.

Nikon Coolpix L2 review at ephotozine

Posted by Steve on 28th May 2006

nikon coolpix l2 reviewEphotozine have posted a review of the Nikon Coolpix L2 digital camera. The Nikon Coolpix L2 is an easy to use, entry level digital camera with 6 megapixels resolution, a 3 times optical zoom and a 2 inch LCD display. The L2 is less than 1 inch thick and fits easily into any pocket, making it an ideal take everywhere camera.

The review result:
“Despite the basic controls and sluggish, I managed to get images I am pleased with out of the Coolpix L2. The quality of the images it produces are more than a match for cameras costing almost double. The logical menu system makes the camera very easy to operate, and the anti-reflective screen is a joy to use, even if it isn’t the biggest available.

If you are on a budget, but don’t want to compromise on image quality, the Coolpix L2 should not disappoint.”

Pentax Optio A10 review at DPInterface

Posted by Steve on 28th May 2006

pentax optio a10 reviewA review of the Pentax Optio A10 digital camera is available at DPInterface. The Pentax Optio A10 is an ultra compact, 8 megapixel digital camera that comes in a high quality aluminium body. The Optio A10 features a 3x optical zoom, a large 2.5 inch LCD display and an optical shake reduction system that helps in situations where blurred photos are likely, such as low light shots.

The reviewer’s opinion:
“Sadly, I cannot recommend the Pentax Optio A10 because I don’t know how many photo opportunities you’ll miss with this camera: Sluggish performance plus below average battery life is already a bad combination. If you’re looking for an ultra-compact with good battery life, a big LCD, image stabilization and high ISO sensitivity, take a look at the Sony T30 or if you’re looking for manual controls, scene modes, fancy movie mode and 8 megapixels, consider the Casio Z850. Ultimately, the Pentax Optio A10 is not a good buy.”

The Canon A540 was awarded 8 out of 10 points in the overall review rating and here is the review verdict:
“The A450 is a very capable camera and good value for money, and would make an excellent choice for anyone who wants to learn more about photography before moving on to a semi-pro zoom or DSLR. It may lack some features found on higher end models, but it is a good all rounder and produces top quality results.”
