The A620 offers full manual controls in addition to the automatic and scene modes, which will appeal to the experienced photographer who demands more control of the picture taking process.

“Everything about the camera says quality; the casing is well made and the pictures are of excellent quality. […] The Canon Power Shot A620 is a powerful digital camera with excellent picture quality. […] The relatively low entry-level makes operation simple, but there are enough other setting possibilities to stop the creative photographer from feeling restricted. […]
In practice the Canon PowerShot A620 is a pleasure to use. […] Conclusion: it’s a winner!”

Fujifilm FinePix F470 review at DPInterface

fujifilm finepix f470 reviewA review of the Fujifilm FinePix F470 digital camera is available at DPInterface.
The Fujifilm Finepix F470 is an ultra compact 6 megapixel camera with a 3 times optical zoom and a large 2.5 inch LCD display, in a stylish all metal body. Designed for ease of use, this point and shoot camera is suitable for the beginning photographer, who will appreciate the F470’s automatic shooting mode, as well as the selection of predefined scene modes.

The review results:
“If only its LCD covered 100% of the frame, if only it had better battery life and if only it was faster. I think that the FinePix F470 is good but not good enough. For the same price, the Sony W50 offers the same things but also has an LCD with 100% coverage, 80% better battery life, an AF-assist beam and is slightly faster.

What’s hot:
* Simple, user friendly and very compact
* Powerful flash
* Useful but few scene modes
* Big LCD with average visibility
* Good movie mode
* Good image quality and fairly low noise

What’s not:
* LCD is low in resolution and only covers 97% of the frame
* Below average battery life
* No AF-assist beam
* Slow, limited continuous shooting
* Slow performance”

Kodak EasyShare Z650 review at dpreview

Posted by Steve on 29th April 2006

kodak easyshare z650 reviewA review of the Kodak EasyShare Z650 digital camera is available at dpreview. The Kodak EasyShare Z650 is a 6 megapixel ultra zoom camera, offering a 10x optical zoom lens and a 2 inch LCD display. Despite its low price, the EasyShare Z650 offers a variety of exposure options, including fully automatic and fully manual exposure settings, as well as a large number of pre-set scene modes.

The results of the review:
“Like its predecessor it’s actually a very nice camera, and an easy and (usually) enjoyable one to use, and the color is typical Kodak - rich, vivid and generally very accurate. It’s also very compact, has excellent photographic controls and is very easy to use. […]

Taken on its own the Z650 is a perfectly good camera, one capable of perfectly good results, and one that offers perfectly good value for money. Unfortunately perfectly good just isn’t enough in a market this competitive, and the Z650 suffers by comparison to some of its competitors, and because in attempting to ‘dumb down’ the feature set of the DX line Kodak cut too many important features without offering much in exchange. I’m sure it will sell well (Kodak is no small player in this market), and I’m sure those who buy it will be perfectly happy, but I would certainly look at the alternatives before handing over my money for the Z650.”

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 review at imaging resource

Posted by Steve on 29th April 2006

panasonic lumix dmc lx1 reviewThe Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 digital camera has been reviewed at imaging resource.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 is a compact digital camera with 8.4 megapixel resolution and a 4 times optical zoom. It is the first camera to offer a 16:9 aspect ratio, which, in combination with the wide zoom lens, allows you to take truly panoramic photos. The Lumix DMC-LX1 is also equipped with optical image stabilization technology, reducing the risk of blurred pictures usually caused by camera shake.

The review verdict:
“The Panasonic LX1 is a pretty unique digital camera. It packs a 4x zoom lens into a surprisingly compact body and mates it to a 16:9 sensor with options for 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratios, too. Panasonic throws in their excellent Mega OIS Optical Image Stabilization technology for good measure. […] The Panasonic LX1 also offers 8 megapixel resolution, very bright color without oversaturating skin tones, good macro focusing, and very good battery life. Not to mention optional full manual control, programmed auto, and both aperture and shutter priority modes in addition to a simple auto mode and plenty of Scene modes.
[…] The Panasonic LX1 is an excellent little camera, and clearly one of the best bargains on the market in light of its resolution, color, and rich feature set. […] With a Leica lens and a solid built, it is a strong value, and a “Dave’s Pick” to be sure. There’s really nothing else quite like it.”

Nikon D200 review at Shutterbug

Posted by Steve on 29th April 2006

nikon d200 reviewA review of the Nikon D200 dSLR camera is available at Shutterbug.
The Nikon D200 is a digital SLR camera with a 10.2 megapixel resolution. The D200 impresses with a 5fps continuous shooting mode where it can capture up to 37 JPEG or 22 RAW images, and its new 11 area AF system.

The review verdict:
“Priced at about $1700, the D200 will appeal to those who want one of the best and most useable digital SLRs today, but want to experience pro build and handling without paying the higher price tag of pro-level cameras. At 10+ megapixels it certainly delivers the imaging power for enlargements and even radical crops on 8×10 prints. With more built-in imaging options than one could ever use or imagine, there isn’t much the D200 can’t handle.”
