Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 review at creativepro

Posted by Steve on 31st January 2006

panasonic lumix dmc lx1 reviewA review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 digital camera is available at creativepro.

Here is a summar of the review conclusion:
“[…] There’s a lot to like about the LX1. You won’t give up any critical controls compared to an SLR, and the raw format and adjustable aspect ratios give you more image-editing and compositional options than you’ll normally have on a small camera. […] The LX1 still fits nicely in a coat pocket or bag, and it’s a lot easier than lugging a full SLR kit.
[…] If you think you’ll shoot mostly indoor snapshots in low light, you might want a different camera. Otherwise, the LX1 is an excellent option for the SLR shooter who wants a smaller alternative for occasional use.”

nikon coolpix p1 reviewA review of the Nikon CoolPix P1 digital camera has been published at TrustedReviews.

The review result:
“Even without wireless technology, the CoolPix P1 is a superb high-end compact camera, with attractive and user-friendly design, rock solid build quality, some dazzling technology and excellent picture quality. It’s a little pricy compared to some of its competition, but it’s got the quality to back it up.”

Posted by Steve on 30th January 2006

HP Photosmart R607 reviewCNET has reviewed the HP PhotoSmart R607 digital camera.

The review result:
“Lots of useful options set this 4-megapixel compact apart from the pack, but a dearth of scene modes and a minuscule 1.5-inch LCD rain on the HP Photosmart R607’s feature parade.”

Here is part of the review conclusion:
“[…] Nothing but praise for the image quality. A beautiful, large dynamic range, fine plasticity and a beautiful colour reproduction. […] The JPEG images are clean and almost completely free of artifacts. […] Swift startup, reliability, robust built, clear ergonomics, perfect image control and quality, large display are all elements that are necessary for a powerful digital tool with which the professional photographer can reach its target. In short, the Nikon D2X is a professional universal digital reflex camera that will appeal to many photographers.”

Canon PowerShot SD430 review at CNET

Posted by Steve on 28th January 2006

canon powershot sd430 reviewA review of the Canon PowerShot SD430 digital camera, also known as the Digital IXUS Wireless, is available at CNET.

The good: Wi-Fi capability includes full remote control and capture; ultracompact design; excellent burst capabilities; low shutter lag.

The bad: Cannot e-mail from camera as with Kodak’s EasyShare One; no remote capture via USB; few manual controls or scene modes; image quality far from stellar.

The bottom line: The Canon SD430 is the only consumer-level choice out there for wireless remote shooting and capture, but it’s an otherwise average camera.

Sony Cybershot DSC-T9 review at Steve’s Digicams

Posted by Steve on 28th January 2006

sony cybershot t9 reviewSteve’s Digicams has reviewed the Sony Cybershot DSC-T9 digital camera.

The review results:
“With a 6-megapixel imager, very good image quality, small size, light weight and good-looks, the DSC-T9 is a high-quality go anywhere camera for recording your vacation travels and outdoor activities. It is less successful at capturing indoor family events because of its limited flash range, not-so-wide zoom range and marginally effective red eye reduction. With an MSRP of $449, the T9 is priced $100 more than its T5 sibling; the Steady Shot image stabilization feature alone will justify the T9’s additional cost to many photographers, with the extra 1-megapixel of resolution and 1/2 stop greater sensitivity as bonuses.[…]”

Panasonic DMC-FZ30 review at camera labs

Posted by Steve on 28th January 2006

panasonic lumix dmc fz30 reviewA review of the Panasonic DMC-FZ30 digital camera is available at camera labs.

The conclusion of the review:
“The Panasonic DMC-FZ30 is without a doubt a very classy all-in-one camera. Its massive zoom range simply beats rivals into submission, while the optical stabilisation really works a treat. Despite its low price, the FZ30’s build quality is also of a higher standard than the competition.
[…]
That said, anyone considering the FZ30 should closely compare it with Fujifilm’s S9500 / S9000 and also Sony’s R1. Each has unique pros and cons which could sway your ultimate decision. Should you decide on the FZ30 though you won’t be disappointed. It’s an excellent camera and comes Highly Recommended.”
