“The Canon PowerShot A610 is an very worthy addition near the top of that line, offering a 5-megapixel CCD and a very good quality 4x optical zoom lens. It offers everything from fully automatic to fully manual exposure control […]. In the past, we’ve often found that 5-megapixel cameras suffer a little in the image noise department, but were quite pleasantly surprised by the A610’s high-ISO image quality. […]
Bottom line, this is just an excellent “all around” digital camera, and an excellent bargain […]. Another easy choice for a Dave’s Pick.”

The Sony Cyber-shot DCS R1 digital camera has been reviewed at Steve’s Digicams.
Here is part of the review conclusion:
“Thanks to its high quality lens and large image sensor, the R1 sets a new standard for image quality among prosumer cameras, especially at high ISO settings. As an alternative to dSLRs, the R1 offers enthusiasts terrific image quality, good shooting performance and 10-megapixels of resolution […]. If the R1’s fixed 24-120mm lens meets your image composition needs, you may have found the 2006 version of digicam nirvana.”

A review of the Kodak EasyShare P850 digital camera has been published at Dpreview.
Here is a summary of the review conclusion:
“It has a truly sophisticated feature set, comprehensive external controls and the usual Kodak friendly interface. The addition of image stabilization means the full range of the zoom can be used hand held […]. The screen is good, the electronic viewfinder excellent for a camera at this price, and the P850 is considerably more responsive than most of its predecessors. […]
The additional features of the P850 mean it still offers the best ‘bang for your buck’ of any 5MP ’super zoom’ […].
Because of all the ‘pros’ above, the P850 - just - scrapes a recommended, but a recommended with real reservations.”

A review of the Kodak EasyShare P880 digital camera is available at ZDNet.
They were impressed by the P880’s unusually wide zoom lens (24mm), its user friendlyness and the shot to shot performance when using JPEG format.
The review conclusion:

The result of the review:
“The DSC-R1’s image quality is the best we’ve ever seen in a Sony camera and comparable to the best DSLRs in its class. […]
This camera can handle most situations, including product and nature shots, with ease. The wide-angle lens and accessory-dedicated flash also make it ideal for real estate, insurance, and other business uses. But portrait and sports shooters won’t be satisfied with the resolution and response of the R1’s EVF, the limited scope of its built-in lens, or the shortcomings of its external flash system.”

“The Coolpix S4 is clearly a snapshooter’s camera, though one with an extended lens. […] It lacks the speed, image quality, and control of those cameras, and it doesn’t offer the stuff strong ultra zoom cameras can lord over DSLRs: image stabilization and a useful video mode. […]
We’d like to see the S4’s innovative features on a more capable camera, but we can’t recommend the camera itself.”
